So, everyone, there is a referendum on whether we shall sign an alliance with the region of Italia.
It is a simple poll, just vote "Yes" or "No."

I would like to make this impeccably clear: Even after this alliance, the language of our region will remain English! It will not change, REPEAT, the official language of our region will be English! I don't want to see people depart our region for this silly misunderstanding! The biggest difference perhaps is that I may have to converse in Italian to our friends, but I will always provide a translation to everything so you all can understand?
Our language is ENGLISH on this forum, so don't fret. To start with, I received a telegram with draft text on the new alliance:
“The Government of the Republic of Putignano Scalo: RECOGNIZING of the situation of absent formality of a delegate in the Senate; RECOGNIZING that the actual Regional Delegate retains the the character as the actual one is on vacation; REMEMBERS the past experiences of quality of Regional Delegate; CONVINCED that the government of the region cannot be abandoned on this and needs guidelines of a competent class INDUVIDUALIZING in the union of all Italian-speaking nations, the objective from the foundation of this region, ESTABLISHING that it is not possible to gather a decision in the Senate until September 1st;
ANNOUNCES Of being representative of the region ITALIA, of having informal contacts with the founders and/or delegates of the regions: Sarcazzia Lombardia Lucca Venice
Of being intentioned to favor creating more stable and strong relations with an auspicable intstitutional-political integration among these regions and ITALIA.”
For those who do understand Italian, you may be more interested in the original translation (so as not to lose anything). :
“Il Governo Della Repubblica di Putignano Scalo
RICONOSCENDO la situazione di assenza formale (causa mancato giuramento) di un Delegato nel Senato; RICONOSCENDO che l'attuale Delegato Regionale ritiene egli stesso essere una figura a carattere temporaneo ed attualmente è in vacanza; MEMORE delle proprie passate esperienze in qualità di Delegato Regionale; CONVINTO che il governo della regione non possa essere abbandonato al caso ma abbia bisogno di linee guida e di una classe dirigente competente; INDIVIDUANDO nell'unione di tutte le nazioni di lingua italiana l'obiettivo di fondo di questa regione; CONSTATANDO che attualmente nel Senato non è possibile prendere alcuna decisione fino al 1 settembre;
ANNUNCIA

Thanks for translating and posting that. I am not freaked about the language thing and would never abandon Venice over it. You are an excellent communicator, Piemonte-Sardegna, and I'm sure you will keep us informed.
What do you know about the regions of Sarcazzia, Lombardia and Lucca--and where they stand on the proposed alliance?

What do you know about the regions of Sarcazzia, Lombardia and Lucca--and where they stand on the proposed alliance? I'm relieved that you prefer to stay. One of our inhabitants left (in my view) because of the myth that our regional conversations would be conducted soley in Italian. I've telegrammed him refuting that, but there has been no response yet. ITALIA also has English on their World Factbook Entry, so it should be easy to assume that they have at least a "reasonable" understanding of the language. I think Lombardia may be favorable to the alliance, but they seem to be an extension of ITALIA. The others, I'm not sure. They are all Italian regions with Italian as the lingua franca. We have a predominately English-speaking region, but that doesn't seem to deter the offer of an alliance. We'll see what develops.

You can never have too many friends, right? Besides, since I am rather new to NationsStates, and have yet to be a part of a region that has been in the midst of forming an alliance, I see this as a tremendous learning experience. Thank you for that P-S.

Thank you for that P-S. No problem, buddy. As for the polls: The result of this poll - despite the disappointingly low turnout - will be valid regardless. There has been no quorum in this referendum, and therefore, not necessary to null it due to the small amount of the electorate voting. The polls shall close today at 5PM, Eastern Standard Time. The result of this referendum on an alliance with ITALIA will be final.
